American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn is astonishingly staging a comeback at 41 during the Milan-Cortina Olympics. The former downhill champion is challenging expectations as she returns to competitive skiing.

Vonn's Olympic journey began in Salt Lake City in 2002, where, at just 17, she finished sixth in the combined under her maiden name, Kildow. She made her first World Cup appearance in December 2004.

At the Torino 2006 Olympics, Vonn faced adversity when she crashed during training and spent a night in the hospital. Despite this, she managed to secure eighth in downhill and seventh in super-G, along with a 14th in slalom.

Her defining moment came at the Vancouver 2010 Games when she clinched the gold in the downhill and a bronze in super-G—marking the USA's first women's Olympic downhill gold. Although faced with challenges in slalom and combined events, her determination shone through.

Vonn sat out the Sochi 2014 Games after suffering a serious knee injury at the 2013 Schladming World Championships. She returned in Pyeongchang 2018, winning a bronze in downhill and finishing joint sixth in super-G, declaring it her final Olympic appearance.

Following her retirement after the 2019 World Championships and missing Beijing 2022, Vonn still holds the record as the oldest female racer to earn a medal at 34, with accolades across six World Championships.

Since ending her career, Vonn has made a stunning return by winning two World Cup downhill races and boasts 12 victories in Cortina (six in downhill, six in super-G).

Despite US teammate Mikaela Shiffrin having surpassed her World Cup wins with 108, Vonn's wealth of experience and relentless spirit make her a formidable opponent in Milan-Cortina.

Lindsey Vonn's return to the Olympics is a testament to her resilient spirit, proving age is merely a number in the quest for excellence.
