Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Expands Violent Network in Canada

Post by : Mina Carter

The notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang has intensified its criminal activities in Canada, claiming responsibility for two violent incidents this week — the murder of Indian-origin industrialist Darshan Singh Sahasi and a gun attack on the home of Punjabi singer Channi Nattan.

Industrialist Shot Dead in Abbotsford

On Monday morning, 68-year-old Darshan Singh Sahasi, a respected entrepreneur based in Abbotsford, British Columbia, was shot dead outside his home. The killing was publicly claimed by Bishnoi gang member Goldy Dhillon, who alleged that Sahasi was involved in illegal drug trade activities and had refused to pay extortion money.

According to local reports, the shooter waited near Sahasi’s car, parked outside his residence. As Sahasi entered the vehicle, the assailant fired multiple rounds and fled the scene. Police found Sahasi critically injured, and despite emergency medical assistance, he was declared dead on the spot.

In the aftermath, three nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution, though no students were harmed. Authorities have begun investigating the shooting, examining both local and transnational crime links.

A Self-Made Industrialist and Philanthropist

Darshan Singh Sahasi had moved to Canada in 1991 and initially worked small jobs before purchasing a stake in a struggling textile recycling company, Canam International. Over the years, he transformed it into a successful global business.

Sahasi was admired for his community contributions and philanthropy within the Punjabi diaspora in Canada. His sudden killing has left the Abbotsford community in shock. Local leaders and community members are urging Canadian authorities to strengthen security for Indian-origin entrepreneurs and take strict action against gang violence.

Attack on Punjabi Singer Channi Nattan’s House

Just hours after Sahasi’s murder, the Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for firing shots at Punjabi singer Channi Nattan’s home. According to gang member Dhillon’s social media post, the attack was meant as a warning because Nattan was allegedly getting close to another singer, Sardar Khera.

Dhillon stated that the gang held no personal grudge against Nattan but issued a direct threat to any artist collaborating with Khera, saying they would “be responsible for their own loss.”

Gang Member Arrested in the US

The incidents occurred a day after Rajasthan Police arrested Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga, a key Bishnoi gang operative, in the United States. Jagga was wanted in several cross-border criminal cases, and authorities believe his arrest might have triggered retaliatory actions by the gang’s network abroad.

The Bishnoi Gang’s Global Operations

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which Canadian intelligence agencies have designated as a terrorist organization, is believed to control a network of over 700 shooters worldwide.

The gang is linked to multiple high-profile cases, including:

  • The assassination of Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala in 2022.

  • Threats to Bollywood actor Salman Khan.

  • Extortion and drug trafficking operations across India, Canada, and the UK.

  • Alleged ties to pro-Khalistan outfits, which security agencies continue to investigate.

The recent attacks have reignited debate over Canada’s handling of organized crime and extremist networks operating within its borders. With several violent incidents linked to Indian-origin gangs in recent years, community leaders have urged both Canadian and Indian authorities to collaborate on curbing cross-border criminal activities.

As investigations continue, the twin attacks underscore the expanding international reach of the Bishnoi gang, raising fears of escalating violence among Punjabi communities abroad.
