Inauguration of Sharjah's Children and Youth Shura Councils

Sharjah, UAE: His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, proudly inaugurated the 18th session of the Sharjah Children's Shura Council and the 9th session of the Sharjah Youth Shura Council this Sunday at the headquarters of the Sharjah Consultative Council. This year’s session features the theme “Serving the Community is Leadership.”

During his address, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed highlighted that the councils are guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with significant encouragement from Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi. He expressed great pride in the involvement of Sharjah’s youth.

He further elaborated that the theme underlines the critical importance of responsibility and active participation, asserting that Sharjah places trust in its young generation to engage with pressing issues and offer constructive ideas for societal and national advancement.

The Deputy Ruler affirmed that being a council member is both an esteemed responsibility and an invaluable opportunity for growth. The councils are designed to cultivate essential skills within young participants, such as dialogue proficiency, teamwork, respect for diverse opinions, and leadership potential.

Additionally, he noted that approximately 20,000 voters took part in electing council members, showcasing robust support from the community for youth engagement in the policymaking process.

Sheikh Sultan urged the young members to articulate their thoughts with a sense of responsibility, engage wholeheartedly in discussions, and propose realistic recommendations for Sharjah’s future. He congratulated them on their roles and wished them the best in their parliamentary endeavors.

The ceremony commenced with the UAE national anthem and Quran recitation, thereafter proceeding with the oath-taking of 60 children’s council members and 80 youth council members.

Hamid Saeed Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Children’s Shura Council, acknowledged the leadership for empowering children and providing them a platform to contribute meaningfully to their community. He emphasized the significance of children’s insights in paving the way for a brighter future and pledged commitment and loyalty to the nation.

Hamad Mohammed Ibrahim, Chairman of the Youth Shura Council, stated that the youth are essential partners in the nation’s development and expressed commitment to transform ideas into actionable initiatives for community welfare. He thanked Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed and Sheikha Jawaher for their unwavering support of youth leadership.

The Shura Councils are dedicated to enhancing parliamentary skills among youth while fostering dialogue, responsibility, and active community involvement. This initiative embodies Sharjah’s vision of nurturing human capital and developing future leaders.

The ceremony was attended by esteemed officials, including Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, and Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, along with other representatives from the government.
