Kim Jong Un Rings in New Year with Call for National Cohesion

In Pyongyang, North Korea, Kim Jong Un partook in lively New Year festivities that included fireworks, traditional dances, patriotic music, and a taekwondo show, as reported by state media this Thursday.

In his address, Kim commended the North Korean populace for their remarkable achievements and "phenomenal changes" throughout 2025. He highlighted the necessity for national unity as the nation gears up for the 9th Workers’ Party Congress, set to occur in early 2026. This congress is pivotal for determining the country’s strategic path for the next five years, focusing on nuclear development, weaponry, and economic strategies.

Kim also acknowledged North Korean forces currently involved in conflicts in Ukraine, labeling them as the country’s "greatest strength and pride," and wishing for their safe return.

The upcoming 9th Workers’ Party Congress is expected to unveil detailed policies and initiatives that will guide North Korea in various sectors, emphasizing the leadership’s priorities in military and national development.

Through his New Year celebrations and speech, Kim Jong Un reiterated his appeal for solidarity among North Koreans as the nation approaches a significant year filled with military, political, and economic aspirations.
