Today marks the commencement of the 2026 Turkmenistan Football Cup, with thrilling quarter-final matches held across the nation. This year's tournament is the 35th iteration of this esteemed national cup, showcasing eight clubs from the top tier of Turkmen football vying for prominence.

Football enthusiasts across Turkmenistan are abuzz as numerous prominent teams gear up for intense competition for a chance to reach the semi-finals. Among the participants are three leading clubs from Ashgabat: Altyn Asyr, Ashgabat, and Kopetdag.

Joining them in the mix are Nebitchi from Balkanabat, Shagadam from Turkmenbashy, Merv from Mary, and Ahal from the Ahal region, alongside the defending champions Arkadag, hailing from Arkadag city.

The opening match of the quarter-finals is hosted in Turkmenbashy, where Shagadam takes on Kopetdag before an enthusiastic home crowd. This clash has garnered significant fanfare, signaling the start of a riveting domestic cup season.

Meanwhile, in Ashgabat, three more quarter-final matches are set, highlighted by the capital derby where Altyn Asyr faces Ashgabat at the Buzmeyin district stadium. Fans are eager for a gripping showdown between two historically rich clubs.

Defending champions Arkadag kick off their title defense against Merv at Nisa Stadium. Arkadag carries a robust confidence this season, having previously clinched the trophy and continuing to assert their dominance in Turkmen football.

Another significant matchup pits Ahal against Nebitchi at the Ashgabat Stadium, as Ahal looks to build on their strong legacy, having reached the final last year only to fall to Arkadag in a dramatic match.

Football authorities have confirmed that the second-leg matches will take place on June 24, allowing clubs ample time to strategize for their return fixtures. This home-and-away structure promises exhilarating competition as teams compete for a spot in the semi-finals.

Last season, Arkadag triumphed in the Turkmenistan Cup for the third time, overcoming Ahal with a 2-1 victory in the final. The 2026 tournament is set to offer even more exhilarating football as teams pursue national recognition and a significant chapter in Turkmen football history.
