Kapil Sharma’s Cafe Attacked Third Time Amid Gang Extortion Fears

Post by : Mina Carter

Comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe, Kap’s Cafe, has been targeted for the third time in four months, sparking serious concerns about organised crime, extortion, and transnational gang violence in Canada. The latest attack occurred early Thursday morning in Surrey, British Columbia, leaving the cafe’s façade riddled with bullet holes, though no injuries were reported.

The assault has been claimed on social media by Goldy Dhillon and Kulveer (Kuldeep) Sidhu, figures allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which was recently designated a terrorist organisation by Canadian authorities. The attack comes only two weeks after the cafe reopened with enhanced security measures.

Timeline of Attacks

The cafe has been repeatedly targeted since its grand opening:

  • July 10, 2025: The first attack occurred days after the opening, with gunshots shattering windows. Responsibility was claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi, an operative of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), citing alleged offensive comments made by Sharma about Nihang Sikhs.

  • August 7, 2025: A second shooting forced a temporary closure. Bishnoi gang associate Harry Boxer claimed the attack was linked to Sharma’s invitation to actor Salman Khan for the cafe’s inauguration and warned others collaborating with the actor.

  • October 2025: The third attack took place just two weeks after the cafe reopened, with claims of responsibility made online by Dhillon and Sidhu.

Gang Involvement and Claims

In a social media post, Goldy Dhillon asserted responsibility for all three shootings, stating, “We have no enmity with the general public. Those who owe us or cheat us will be warned. Bollywood individuals who speak against our religion should also be prepared — bullets can come from anywhere.”

Security analysts suggest that Sharma’s high-profile status makes him a symbolic target for criminal networks seeking publicity or exerting control over South Asian business communities in Canada. The repeated attacks point to the involvement of organised crime networks connected to Lawrence Bishnoi, notorious for transnational operations in both India and Canada.

Police Investigations

Canadian authorities are exploring a possible extortion angle. Ian MacDonald, spokesperson for the Surrey Police Service (SPS), told CBC News that the attacks “have the earmarks of extortion” and that both SPS and the Provincial Extortion Task Force are investigating. Authorities are aware of individuals claiming ties to the Bishnoi gang taking credit for the latest assault.

Community and Security Concerns

The attacks highlight the growing influence of South Asian organised crime in Surrey, a city with a large Punjabi diaspora. Extortion rackets and gang rivalries have surged in recent years, often targeting prominent figures within the diaspora. Security experts warn that celebrities like Kapil Sharma can become high-value targets due to their visibility, making their business ventures more vulnerable.

The continued attacks on Kap’s Cafe underscore broader concerns about the reach of criminal networks into Canadian urban centers and the need for robust security measures and law enforcement vigilance. While no casualties have been reported, the psychological and business impact on Sharma and his establishment is considerable, especially as the cafe attempts to reopen and operate safely.

Kapil Sharma’s repeated targeting by organised crime groups in Canada reflects a troubling trend of diaspora-related gang activity and extortion. With authorities actively investigating and Sharma implementing security enhancements, the unfolding situation remains a stark reminder of the intersection between celebrity, business, and transnational criminal networks.
