Israel Strengthens UAE Defence with Iron Dome Amid Attacks

Israel has positioned its advanced Iron Dome air defense system in the United Arab Emirates as a response to escalating Iranian assaults, according to a report by Axios citing U.S. and Israeli officials.

In addition to the system, military personnel were dispatched to operate it. The Iron Dome is renowned for its effectiveness in intercepting short-range rockets, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles, and has been integral to Israel's defense strategy.

This action followed a series of attacks by Iran aimed at the UAE’s infrastructure amid the ongoing U.S.-Israel conflict. Notably, while many threats were neutralized, some managed to inflict damage on civilian and military sites, raising alarm among Emirati leaders.

Reports suggest that UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan solicited urgent assistance from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Consequently, Netanyahu commanded the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to deploy an Iron Dome battery along with additional defense personnel.

The Iron Dome has substantially bolstered the UAE’s air defense capabilities, successfully intercepting numerous Iranian missiles. According to officials from Abu Dhabi's defense ministry, Iran has launched approximately 550 ballistic and cruise missiles, in addition to over 2,200 drones during the hostilities.

This is the inaugural instance of Israel deploying the Iron Dome to another nation, making the UAE the third country, alongside Israel and the United States, to utilize the system.

This development significantly enhances defense cooperation between the UAE and Israel. Authorities from both countries confirmed a high level of coordination throughout the conflict. Analysts and former officials have also noted the escalated strategic partnership, encompassing military operations, intelligence sharing, and diplomatic efforts.

UAE officials have characterized this military assistance as a pivotal moment, recognizing the vital support from allies like the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Australia.

The deployment of the Iron Dome is viewed as a key milestone in regional defense collaboration and represents a transformative phase in UAE-Israel relations.
