Iran May Shift World Cup Matches to Mexico Over Safety Concerns

Iran is considering a major change ahead of the global tournament, as talks begin to shift Iran World Cup matches to Mexico due to safety concerns. The Iran Football Federation is in discussions with FIFA about moving its scheduled matches from the United States to Mexico.

Iran’s football president Mehdi Taj said the decision is linked to concerns about player safety. This comes after Donald Trump recently said that while Iran is welcome to participate, it may not be safe for the team to play in the US. Taj stated that if security cannot be guaranteed, the team will not travel to America.

The upcoming World Cup is set to take place across three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Iran is currently scheduled to play two group matches in Los Angeles and one in Seattle. However, rising tensions between Iran and the US have created uncertainty around these plans.

The situation has become more serious after recent conflict involving Iran, which has raised doubts about the team’s participation in the tournament. Iran’s sports minister has also suggested that it may not be possible for the team to play under the current conditions.

Despite this, the Asian Football Confederation said it has not received any official notice of Iran withdrawing from the competition. Officials added that, for now, Iran has confirmed it still plans to take part.

FIFA has not yet made any official statement on the matter. If Iran decides to withdraw or shift venues, it could create a major challenge for organizers, as they may need to quickly adjust match schedules or find a replacement team.
