Iran Poised for a Memorable 2026 World Cup Journey in the US

Iran has officially declared its national football team is prepared for a “proud and successful” journey in the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held in the United States.

As per the announcement by government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohejerani on state television, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has confirmed the team's readiness for the upcoming tournament, following directives from the sports minister.

Uncertainties surrounding Iran's participation arose earlier this year due to heightened military tensions in the region. Nevertheless, officials have now made it clear that the team's preparations are in full swing.

FIFA has reiterated that Iran will adhere to the official schedule of the World Cup and has dismissed suggestions to relocate Iran's matches to other countries, including Mexico.

On March 31, FIFA President Gianni Infantino met with Iranian football representatives and players in Turkey, where Iran played warm-up matches against Nigeria and Costa Rica in Antalya. During the meeting, Infantino expressed support for Iran's preparations, including assistance in arranging an external training camp.

Although Iran's domestic league has been paused due to ongoing conflicts, the national team has recently resumed training in Tehran, shared through official social media channels.

The team is set to play its group-stage matches within the United States, facing New Zealand and Belgium at the Inglewood stadium in Los Angeles, followed by a clash against Egypt in Seattle.

Iran's squad is expected to reach Tucson, Arizona for its training camp by June 10, in line with FIFA regulations that require teams to arrive early before competition.

A crucial aspect still under discussion is the approval of U.S. visas for the Iranian delegation, including Iranian Football Federation president Mehdi Taj, who faced entry denials during the World Cup draw in Washington, D.C.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
