In a significant move towards enhancing mobility, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has reviewed the Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) cutting-edge initiatives aimed at boosting transportation efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Accompanied by Mattar Al Tayer, Sheikh Hamdan explored three pivotal projects: a rapid intervention vehicle, an advanced smart bus station, and facilities for soft mobility parking.
He noted that these initiatives are in line with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision to position Dubai among the forefront of cities adopting innovative transport solutions. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the city's commitment to reshaping urban mobility through smart technologies and eco-friendly practices to enhance the quality of life for its residents.
Rapid Intervention Vehicle
A standout feature is the innovative rapid intervention vehicle designed for swift emergency responses, particularly during heavy rain and water accumulation.
This vehicle can pump an impressive 60,000 litres of water per minute, equivalent to the power of ten conventional pumps, and operates effectively in water depths of up to 1.8 metres, drastically cutting response times by over 75%.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technologies including multiple pumps, a rescue boat, a thermal drone, and a backup generator, this vehicle ensures efficient emergency response while keeping traffic flowing smoothly.
Smart Bus Station
Sheikh Hamdan also inspected a smart bus station nearing completion on Sheikh Zayed Road, close to Mall of the Emirates. This project is nearly 90% finished and is set to be fully operational shortly.
The station features fully digital, paperless services linked with nol cards and the S’hail app, and includes solar panels, AI-driven cameras for crowd management, and sensors to assess air quality.
Designed to meet LEED Platinum standards, this station promises passengers a safe, environmentally friendly, and comfortable travel experience.
Soft Mobility Parking Facilities
The RTA has unveiled modern parking solutions for bicycles and electric scooters, which include shaded areas, charging stations, and intelligent monitoring systems.
This initiative enhances first and last-mile connectivity and encourages eco-conscious travel practices, adhering to global best standards and being implemented at essential transport points and popular locales.
Future Expansion Plan
As cycling activities within Dubai surge, leading to a remarkable 23% increase with projections for 57.6 million trips by 2025, the RTA plans a phased rollout starting with five pilot locations in July 2026, aiming for full implementation by 2028.
Leadership Vision
This visit underscores the leadership's commitment to tracking the progress of these vital projects, ensuring they are delivered on schedule. These initiatives aim to solidify Dubai's standing as a global innovator in smart mobility and sustainable urban development.
