A 51-year-old Indian-origin man has been arrested in Gwinnett County, Georgia, after a family dispute turned deadly early Friday morning, leaving four adults dead and three children traumatized but unharmed. Police identified the suspect as Vijay Kumar and said the victims included his wife, Meenu Dogra, 43, along with three relatives — Gourav Kumar, 33; Nidhi Chander, 37; and Harish Chander, 38.
The shooting occurred at a residence on Brook Ivy Court in the Lawrenceville suburb of Atlanta at about 2:30 a.m. local time. Gwinnett County Police were alerted when one of Kumar’s children, who was inside the home, managed to call 911 amid the chaos. Responding officers found the four adults with fatal gunshot wounds inside the house.
Three children present in the home hid in a closet during the incident and were not injured in the shooting. After emergency responders arrived, the children were taken into the care of a family member. Police said the tragic event stemmed from a domestic argument, though the precise motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
Kumar was located a short distance from the scene and taken into custody without further incident. He has been charged with multiple violent offenses, including counts of aggravated assault, felony murder and malice murder, as well as charges related to cruelty to children.
The Consulate General of India in Atlanta expressed deep sorrow over the incident, confirming that an Indian national was among the victims and that all possible assistance is being extended to the grieving family. The tragic shooting has shocked local residents and drawn attention to the devastating impact of domestic violence.
