The Indian Embassy in Muscat has said it is working closely with Omani authorities and the family of an Indian seafarer who died aboard a vessel in Oman waters. Efforts are underway to ensure the earliest possible repatriation of his mortal remains to India.
According to a statement issued by the embassy on Sunday, the deceased, identified as Nishanth Uirthanathan, died due to medical complications while onboard MT Celestial. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the nature of the illness.
The mission said the mortal remains were disembarked from the vessel at the Port of Duqm and transferred to a Ministry of in Oman.
Officials stated that the embassy remains in active coordination with local authorities, port officials and the shipping company to complete the required formalities. The Indian mission is also maintaining contact with the family members of the deceased throughout the process.
“The Embassy of India in Muscat is coordinating closely with the family of the deceased and the concerned Omani authorities to facilitate the earliest possible repatriation of the mortal remains to India,” the statement said.
The embassy noted that MT Celestial was expected to berth at Duqm Port, located along Oman’s southeastern coast. Necessary arrangements had been made to ensure the prompt recovery and transfer of the body.
Officials emphasized that all procedures are being carried out in cooperation with the relevant agencies in Oman to avoid delays and provide assistance to the family.
Indian diplomatic missions regularly work with local authorities to assist citizens facing emergencies overseas. Such support includes helping families with documentation and facilitating the return of mortal remains in unfortunate cases involving deaths abroad.
The embassy reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all required procedures are completed smoothly and that the family receives necessary assistance during this difficult time.
