This announcement features significant highlights, including the comeback of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the ODIs, with Jasprit Bumrah rested to manage his workload.
Shubman Gill, a promising young batter, has been appointed the captain for both formats with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain for the Test. Shreyas Iyer also returns to the ODI team and will assist Gill as his deputy.
Selectors have confirmed the inclusion of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya in the ODI squad, although their final participation will hinge on fitness evaluations and adherence to BCCI protocols. This move highlights the management's strategy to field seasoned players as they prepare for an intensive international schedule ahead.
A noteworthy decision was made with the resting of Jasprit Bumrah from both matches as a precaution for workload management. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar noted that Bumrah is being conserved for the critical tour of England later this summer while he focuses on fitness and bowling workload.
Several young talents, including Harsh Dubey, Gurnoor Brar, and Manav Suthar, received their first call-ups owing to impressive performances in domestic and IPL games. Additionally, Prince Yadav also features in the ODI setup. Ravindra Jadeja has been rested for the Test to allow younger all-rounders to take the stage.
The ODI squad boasts a robust batting line-up, featuring Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Nitish Reddy, while the bowling will be spearheaded by Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, and promising newcomers. In the Test team, notable players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharsan, and Mohammed Siraj are expected to play pivotal roles.
India will kick off the series against Afghanistan with a one-off Test in Mullanpur on June 6, followed by ODIs in Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Chennai. Fans are eagerly anticipating the mix of experienced players and new talents in the national ranks.
