Sudanese author and humanitarian Osama Regaah brings forward a heartfelt reflection on the values that shaped his life, linking them with the launch of his new novel, Transparent Ghost. In this deeply personal narrative, he pays tribute to the quiet strength, dignity, and spiritual wealth of his late parents—two individuals whose humility became the foundation of his character and his work.
Growing up in a modest home in Port Sudan, Regaah was taught that true richness lies in sincerity, faith, and the grace of clean intentions. His father, a man of unwavering integrity, believed that sustenance came through honest work and that honor was found in patience, humility, and a clear conscience. Each morning as he opened his small market shop, his soft prayers filled their home with peace and purpose.
Despite limited means, the family experienced a deep, genuine happiness. Through his father’s quiet example, Regaah learned that contentment is a form of strength, and that celebrating the blessings of others without envy is a sign of true richness.
Equally powerful was the influence of his mother, a woman defined by kindness, purity, and an unwavering refusal to speak ill of others. Her philosophy—a pure heart is a blessing—shaped the emotional fabric of the household. She taught her children to love life not for its length, but for its meaning.
Whenever life grew heavy, Osama Regaah found comfort in the memory of his parents’ gentle voices and steady hearts. Their humility, he says, was their nobility.
Some of his most treasured memories come from his family’s yearly visits to their ancestral village in Taybah al-Khawad, Shendi. For months at a time, the simplicity of rural Sudan became their world—muddy pathways, the scent of rain, the warmth of relatives, and the purity of village life.
There were no luxuries, yet there was peace, unity, and a profound sense of belonging. These memories, rich with emotion and clarity, later became an inspiration that breathes through every chapter of Transparent Ghost.
Today, Regaah reflects that true wealth was never in material gain, but in an upbringing that forged resilience, faith, and a conscience that cannot be bought.
Speaking directly to the younger generation, he reminds them that humble origins are not obstacles—they are a school of perseverance. Scarcity teaches gratitude, and hardship builds determination.
“Success is not created by wealth,” he says. “It is shaped by willpower and blessed by contentment.”
Through his novel, his humanitarian work, and his dedication to values inherited from his parents, Osama Regaah continues to honor their memory while inspiring others to walk through life with dignity and purpose.
