Girija Oak Addresses Concerns Over AI-Morphed Images

After going viral for her dazzling blue saree appearance, Marathi actor Girija Oak Godbole has taken to social media to address the troubling spread of AI-morphed images and videos of herself. She shared her thoughts in Hindi, English, and Marathi on Instagram, acknowledging the mix of attention and its dark side that comes with viral fame.

While grateful for the recognition of her work, she voiced her worries about how such content could affect her 12-year-old son in the future. “My son doesn’t use social media yet, but he will eventually. These images might be circulating now, but they'll stay online forever,” she remarked.

Girija opened up about the unexpected spotlight and the diverse reactions that tag along. “Many friends and acquaintances are sending me funny memes, but some are degrading AI-morphed versions of me that are distasteful and objectifying, which I find unsettling,” she stated.

Recognizing the challenges of the digital realm, she added, “I’m familiar with social media dynamics. When something goes viral, this type of content often follows. The cycle keeps going as long as people engage, but it’s concerning that there are no guidelines—nothing is considered off-limits.”

In her message, Girija urged creators and consumers of such content to reconsider their actions. “If you produce AI-morphed images that are inappropriate, please think twice. If you consume them, you contribute to the problem as well,” she emphasized.

Despite these challenges, she expressed enjoyment of the new attention, hopeful it will attract more viewers to her work. “I’m also enjoying the sudden surge in attention; it may lead more to my films, series, or plays. Thank you for your continued support; I aim to deliver strong performances. See you in the theaters!” she concluded.

Girija Oak Godbole will soon appear in the web series Therapy Sherapy, co-starring Gulshan Devaiah. The show delves into intricate human emotions and relationships, although the release date is yet to be confirmed.
