Germany has moved to outlaw the group Muslim Interaktiv, saying the organisation posed a danger to democratic norms, the constitution and basic human rights. Officials also opened probes and executed searches targeting two other groups, Generation Islam and Reality Islam, across several federal states.
The Interior Ministry alleges Muslim Interaktiv spread antisemitic messages and promoted exclusion of women and sexual minorities, while pushing for Islamic law to take precedence over Germany's legal system. Investigators say the group relied heavily on social platforms to reach and influence young Muslims who may feel marginalised in a largely Christian society.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt framed the action as part of a firm, no-compromise policy: “We will use every legal means against anyone who aggressively calls for a caliphate, foments hatred toward Jews, or erodes the rights of women and minorities.” The ministry warned the organisation sought to create what it called “permanent enemies of the constitution,” risking disruption to the country's legal and social order.
Law enforcement carried out coordinated searches at seven sites in Hamburg, a dozen locations in Berlin and several properties in Hesse. Hamburg’s interior minister, Andy Grote, described the ban as a decisive strike against what he termed “modern TikTok Islamism,” pointing to the group's use of short-form online content to sway young audiences.
Anti-extremism campaigners welcomed the move. Ahmad Mansour, a well-known critic of Islamist radicalisation, called the ban “necessary and timely,” saying Muslim Interaktiv had become more confrontational and was mobilising youngsters through intimidation and online propaganda.
The measure is part of Germany’s broader effort to counter both Islamist and far-right radical threats after a string of attacks and foiled plots in recent years. Officials underline that the steps aim to defend democratic values, uphold gender equality and protect minority rights while limiting the reach of radical influences.
Authorities say the organisation’s web accounts were taken down following the ban. Representatives for the groups named in the action were not available to comment.
