Recently, Dubai played host to an enlightening closing session at the World Sports Summit, featuring six legendary football icons, each of whom has raised the FIFA World Cup trophy. These celebrated athletes shared their personal journeys with their national teams and the core values that contributed to their achievements.

The distinguished panel included Didier Deschamps from France, Brazil's Cafu and Ronaldo, Italy's Fabio Cannavaro, and Spain's Carles Puyol and Andres Iniesta. Moderated by Italian football legend Alessandro Del Piero, the session showcased an impressive collective record of 810 international caps, 10 World Cup championships, 10 UEFA Champions League titles, 35 domestic league wins, and five Golden Boot accolades.

The panelists conveyed that winning the World Cup is not merely an endpoint but a testament to unwavering commitment, sacrifice, and essential human virtues such as leadership, sportsmanship, and collaboration.

Didier Deschamps, who triumphed both as a player in 1998 and as a coach in 2018, reflected on the unchanged joy of lifting the trophy, highlighting the importance of teamwork. He called the 1998 victory over Brazil a fulfilled dream, while emphasizing the necessity of meticulous attention to detail in his coaching role.

Cafu, Brazil's captain during the 2002 World Cup, described football as integral to life in Brazil, attributing their success to strong unity and well-defined game plans, which instilled confidence against any opponent, contrasting their 1998 experience.

Ronaldo shared his story of resilience after overcoming a severe injury prior to the 2002 tournament, where his determination led to an impressive eight-goal run, celebrating Brazil's reclaimed title.

Fabio Cannavaro reflected on Italy's 2006 win, emphasizing that success stemmed from collective effort, not solely on Italy's renowned defense, supported by an inspiring coach. He expressed hope that Italy’s renewed focus would revive their World Cup glory.

Carles Puyol highlighted the collaboration between rival players from Real Madrid and Barcelona that underpinned Spain’s 2010 victory, stressing the significance of team spirit and cooperation. Meanwhile, Andres Iniesta cherished the memory of scoring the winning goal in the 2010 final, an experience that continues to resonate 15 years later.

This extraordinary gathering of champions reminded fans around the globe that every trophy is rooted in dedication, unity, and respect—values that continue to inspire future generations, both on and off the pitch.
