Devastating Fire Sweeps Through Commercial Area in Srinagar

A devastating fire broke out this evening in the Barzalla locality of Srinagar, affecting numerous commercial properties, including a carpet factory, officials reported.

Initial findings indicate that the fire began at a junkyard before quickly spreading to nearby buildings housing highly combustible materials like foam, paint, thinner, and carpets. The ferocity of the fire sent thick black smoke spiraling into the sky, noticeable from several kilometers away.

Fire and Emergency Services responded swiftly, sending multiple fire tenders to the scene. Firefighters worked for several hours in a challenging environment to avert the flames from encroaching on neighboring residential areas.

Two firefighters were injured during the response and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is now reported as stable.

High-ranking administrative and fire department personnel arrived at the scene to manage the operation and organize relief efforts.

Officials have confirmed that while the fire is mostly contained, cooling operations are ongoing as some parts of the structures continue to smolder. The precise cause of the blaze is still undetermined and will be investigated further.
