Early on Friday morning, around 4:15 a.m., the office of North Vancouver-Lonsdale MLA and B.C. Infrastructure Minister Bowinn Ma was hit by an explosive device, the RCMP confirmed .
Here’s what we know so far:
The first report came shortly before 2:45 a.m., when a loud bang was heard in Lower Lonsdale. RCMP officers checked the area but didn’t find anything unusual .
Minutes later, police returned after another explosion — this time they found the front door to Bowinn Ma’s office breached and damaged, evidence police say points to an explosive device detonation.
The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit, along with police dog teams and forensic officers, secured the scene. The building was cleared and deemed safe, with no injuries reported.
Minister Ma and her staff are safe, but all scheduled appointments were cancelled until further notice due to the security concern, according to statements from her office .
Premier David Eby called the incident “profoundly concerning,” stressing that elected officials deserve safety at work .
The RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is leading the probe and is canvassing CCTV and dashcam footage from around West Esplanade and Chesterfield between 2:30 and 4:30 a.m. to identify suspects or gather more clues .
