The Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club has unveiled the exciting lineup for the 2026 Abu Dhabi Marine Festival, occurring from 10 to 18 January 2026. This event promises nine days of engaging activities that merge the rich maritime heritage of the emirate with contemporary marine sports.
The festival will feature five unique marine championships aimed at celebrating Abu Dhabi's long-standing bond with the sea while emphasizing its emerging status as a hub for global marine competitions. By juxtaposing traditional racing formats with modern events, the festival seeks to draw participants, enthusiasts, and professionals from both the region and around the world.
Among the highlighted events are the esteemed dhow sailing races. The Abu Al Abyad Dhow Sailing Race in the 60ft category and the Hudayriyat Dhow Sailing Race in the 22ft category will again showcase the skills, endurance, and teamwork characteristic of Emirati sailing traditions. These races embody the UAE’s rich maritime culture, where sailing transcends mere sport to become a cherished way of life.
Additionally, the Al Alya Traditional Bawaneesh Sailing Race featuring 12-foot dhows adds to the traditional lineup. This race, known for its competitive spirit and cultural significance, allows sailors to showcase their skills in demanding conditions requiring both technique and heritage knowledge.
Community engagement plays a pivotal role in the festival. The Abu Dhabi Women’s Fishing Championship, set for 10 January, spotlights the increasing involvement of women in marine sports and promotes broader participation in fishing and competitive aquatic activities.
On the modern front, the event will wrap up with the UAE Formula 4 Powerboat Championship on 17 and 18 January. This fast-paced competition contrasts sharply with the traditional races, delivering thrilling action and technical prowess that resonates with a younger generation of marine sports enthusiasts.
Through its diverse offerings, the 2026 Abu Dhabi Marine Festival reinforces the capital's position as a vital center for marine sports, successfully bridging tradition and modernity while highlighting the UAE's profound maritime connections.
