Dubai has unveiled a significant long-term initiative to enhance its sports sector and reinforce its international stature. The Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033, revealed by H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aspires to elevate Dubai to one of the globe's foremost cities for sports and athletic activities.

A key objective of this innovative plan is to significantly boost the number of prestigious sports events hosted annually in Dubai. The aim is to introduce 250 additional major events, attracting millions in attendance and participation from around the globe. Moreover, the initiative targets garnering over 4 million spectators annually at Dubai’s exceptional stadiums and sports facilities, already renowned for meeting international standards.

The strategy is rooted in four essential pillars: hosting events, developing sports clubs, nurturing talent, and promoting community sports. The Dubai Sports Council is set to enhance these areas, aiming for a top-10 global ranking in sports cities. Through these pillars, Dubai intends to bolster its capacity for international event hosting, cultivate talented athletes, and encourage greater community engagement in sports.

Alongside this announcement, a new logo representing Dubai's sports identity was introduced, encapsulating the emirate’s aspirations and its pledge to enrich the quality of life for residents, sports enthusiasts, and visitors alike. This identity is intended for global promotion of Dubai as a vibrant and dynamic sports hub.

A focal point of the strategic initiative is to enhance economic and tourism benefits associated with major sports events. Dubai anticipates the sports economy to increase by 80%, contributing over AED 18.3 billion to the GDP by 2033, driven by hosting prestigious global events, attracting renowned athletes, and boosting international tourism.

Khalfan Juma Belhoul, Vice Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, highlighted the council's plans to initiate 19 major programmes and 75 initiatives aimed at meeting these objectives. These efforts will focus on event management, athlete development, community sports, and collaboration with international sports entities.

Belhoul emphasized that Dubai is committed to organizing premier global sporting events in the ensuing years. Upcoming events will span various popular sports, including football, cricket, golf, basketball, tennis, and rugby. Dubai will also continue enhancing established events that attract vast international audiences, such as the Dubai Marathon and the Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup.

Among the highlights on the calendar is the World Sports Summit set for December, anticipated as a major global congregation of sports figures, experts, and leaders. The summit aims to explore the future of sports and bolster Dubai’s reputation as the “City of the Future.”

To achieve these ambitious targets, Dubai will upgrade its sports infrastructure, improve accessibility, and leverage advanced technology to elevate the event experience and enhance global communication. Collaborations with international partners will be orchestrated to establish Dubai as a premier sports travel destination.

By 2033, Dubai seeks to emerge as a pivotal hub for sports tourism, substantial investments, and groundbreaking sports projects, providing new opportunities for athletes, teams, investors, and sports enthusiasts worldwide, and solidifying its status as a leading sports destination.
