The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) convened an important gathering with sports event organisers, facility owners, and industry leaders to explore the future of Dubai’s sports landscape. This significant meeting was hosted at JA Lake View Hotel in collaboration with JA Sports & Shooting Club at JA The Resort in Jebel Ali.

Key discussions revolved around optimising sports events, fostering private sector partnerships, and underpinning Dubai’s long-term sports development strategy. Participants were also treated to a preview of the upcoming “JA Sports & Shooting Club” ahead of its official launch this summer.

At the meeting, the Dubai Sports Council unveiled the “Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033”, an initiative introduced by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The strategy aspires to elevate Dubai to the forefront of global sports cities by 2033 through substantial investments in infrastructure, international competitions, and community engagement.

Built on four pivotal pillars, the plan incorporates 19 major programmes and 75 initiatives that focus on events, clubs, talent enhancement, and community involvement. Officials underscored that this strategy will reinforce Dubai’s status as a premier location for sports tourism and worldwide competitions.

Essa Sharif, Director of the Sports Events Department at Dubai Sports Council, remarked that the gathering facilitated an exchange of ideas to tackle industry challenges and discover innovative approaches to advance the sports sector. He emphasised that sports events in Dubai extend beyond mere competitions; they are essential for enhancing quality of life, boosting the economy, and showcasing Dubai on the global stage.

Sharif also highlighted the flourishing nature of Dubai’s sports market, noting that the emirate currently hosts over 511 sports events annually, which includes 114 international competitions. Additionally, Dubai accommodates more than 115 international training camps each year, drawing in over 2.7 million participants across various activities.

With a commitment to youth development, Sharif confirmed that Dubai will persist in hosting top-tier sporting events while ensuring robust support systems for athletes and organisers.

Ahmed Al Fahim, Director of the Strategic Development Office at Dubai Sports Council, shared that the 2033 plan outlines both economic and social aspirations. It aims to boost the sports sector’s contribution to Dubai’s GDP from AED 10.17 billion to AED 18.3 billion, alongside increasing local sports participation from 1.6 million to 2.6 million residents, and raising attendance at major events from 1.67 million to 4.1 million visitors.

Ralph Porciani, CEO of JA Resorts & Hotels, characterised the new JA Sports & Shooting Club as a crucial element in fortifying Dubai’s role as a global epicenter for sports, wellness, and lifestyle.

According to Porciani, the facility is designed in harmony with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, merging sports, hospitality, and community experiences into a cohesive destination. He articulated that the project embodies the UAE’s goal of providing exceptional sports experiences and attracting athletes, visitors, and esteemed global events.

The forthcoming JA Sports & Shooting Club will boast the most sophisticated indoor shooting range in the UAE, six FIFA-certified football pitches, two cricket ovals, racquet sports amenities, a 9-hole golf course, and expansive equestrian facilities. Officials are confident that this integrated venue will enhance Dubai’s capability to host international competitions and training sessions in a single, convenient location.
