Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has announced that Al Faghi Street in Al Khawaneej will now be known as Sheikh Zayed Farm Street, recognizing its significant historical role in the establishment of the United Arab Emirates.
This decision, made with the Dubai Road Naming Committee, aims to honor sites that embody the nation’s identity and founding history. Sheikh Zayed Farm is the UAE’s third designated union site, joining Union House and Arqoob Al Sedira.
The farm is a vital symbol of national pride, as it hosted critical gatherings led by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan during the formative years of the UAE. These pivotal meetings contributed significantly to the agreement that formed the Union in 1971.
Official records indicate that Sheikh Zayed stayed at the farm for nearly two weeks in March 1971, engaging in discussions with the rulers of the emirates, which ultimately led to the signing of the Union Agreement later that year.
Authorities in Dubai noted that renaming the street is part of a larger vision to link transportation routes and urban landmarks with cultural sites that reflect the nation’s historical journey. Such initiatives are believed to ignite national pride and educate younger generations about the UAE’s rich legacy.
Sheikh Zayed Farm remains one of the UAE’s most treasured heritage sites. Beyond its political importance, it symbolizes the values of unity, authentic leadership, and visionary progress that transformed the UAE into a global beacon of development.
This new street designation aims to elevate public awareness about the historical significance of landmarks in the Emirates while promoting the narrative of the nation’s cultural heritage.
