The Dubai Aquatics Championship 2026 officially commenced on Friday at the iconic Hamdan Sports Complex, achieving an unprecedented milestone with 1,670 swimmers from more than 100 nationalities.
This year's championship is positioned as one of the premier aquatics events in the region, featuring over 80 clubs and academies from the UAE and beyond. Organizers anticipate a crowd of more than 4,000 fans over the course of the championship, which extends through Sunday evening.
The UAE Aquatics Federation, in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council and Hamdan Sports Complex, has orchestrated the event. With official recognition from World Aquatics, it plays a significant role in ranking athletes for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
During the opening ceremony, Abdulwahid Al Jasmi, a board member of the UAE Marine Sports Federation, emphasized that hosting such an esteemed competition exemplifies the UAE’s escalating status as a central hub for global sports events. He stressed the championship’s importance in fostering young talent and advancing competitive standards.
"We are thrilled to welcome over 1,600 swimmers from around the world. This championship serves as a crucial opportunity for athletes to present their talents, gain international exposure, and further their careers," he noted.
Al Jasmi also remarked that the organizing committee, together with its partners, has ensured the highest technical standards and flawless coordination, offering both participants and spectators a world-class experience.
The championship is already witnessing fierce competition across various categories, with both emerging talents and seasoned swimmers demonstrating their skills. The significant participation underscores the event’s growing relevance, solidifying its place on the international aquatics calendar.
