Abu Dhabi has officially introduced the Design Commission Abu Dhabi (DCAD), led by Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan. This strategic initiative is geared towards enriching the creative economy and fostering design-led innovation in the emirate.

The establishment of DCAD is a pivotal moment in Abu Dhabi's vision to embed creativity, culture, and design into its economic diversification and cultural influence strategies. This commission aims to cultivate innovation in a world increasingly driven by AI and future advancements.

One of DCAD's primary goals is to position Abu Dhabi as a key global player in design intellectual property (IP) ownership and production. Additionally, it will emphasize the development of locally sourced materials and textile advancements while fostering talent through international residencies, advanced training opportunities, and capacity-building programs that align with industry demands.

The commission also aims to enhance Abu Dhabi's creative visibility worldwide through significant cultural exhibitions and cooperative international endeavors, further solidifying the emirate's standing in sustainable luxury, cultural production, and innovative design.

In line with Abu Dhabi's extensive economic and cultural strategy, the Commission aspires to create a vibrant and inclusive design ecosystem that celebrates Emirati creativity, supports emerging industries, and stimulates sustainable job creation in design, craftsmanship, and material innovation.

The formation of DCAD is an integral part of Abu Dhabi's goal to meld design with emerging technologies and innovation over the next three decades, aligning creative industries with economic policies, educational frameworks, and industrial partnerships.

Chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, the DCAD Board includes Nadine Maalouf as the Executive Vice Chairwoman and Rana Kuzayli El Khoury as Undersecretary. They are further supported by an Advisory Committee featuring Asma Al Fahim, Rym Al Falasy, Rima Al Mokarrab, and Meera Al Suwaidi.

Through its strategic initiatives, DCAD aims to pave the way for new talent, encourage collaboration across different sectors, and embed sustainability, technology, and innovation at the heart of the design field — positioning Abu Dhabi as a leader in global creativity.
