Nga Kor Ming: Culture and Arts Essential for Vibrant Cities

Post by : Shakul

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming stated that modern urban centers cannot thrive solely on infrastructure, emphasizing the critical role of arts, culture, and human relationships in developing inclusive communities.

During a recent cultural event in Ipoh, he asserted that while investments in public infrastructure, affordable housing, and improved amenities are crucial, genuine urban success must delve deeper than mere physical structures.

According to Nga, the essence of a city's growth should be evaluated not by the number of skyscrapers and highways, but by the happiness and sense of belonging felt by its residents.

He warned that without cultural involvement, even the most well-equipped cities are at risk of becoming emotionally barren, leaving residents feeling isolated.

Nga emphasized that arts and cultural initiatives are vital in fostering unity, compassion, and mutual understanding within Malaysia’s diverse populace.

He pointed out that music, as a universal language, transcends race and geography, playing a significant role in bridging divides and promoting harmony.

The minister further encouraged Malaysians to view diversity as a unifying strength, stating that collaboration enhances creativity and national advancement.

His comments were made at the MADANI Philharmonic Musical Concert 2026: A Tune of Friendship and Unity in Harmony, held at the RTM Auditorium.

This concert showcased performances by various orchestras, highlighting collaborative efforts among musicians from differing backgrounds, celebrating cultural harmony.

Nga concluded by urging citizens to reject extremism and prejudice, asserting that unity and shared values are essential to ensuring Malaysia's ongoing development and global standing.
