CNN Academy Abu Dhabi Completes its Fifth Edition with a Job Fair

The Creative Media Authority has successfully wrapped up the fifth edition of CNN Academy Abu Dhabi, further establishing the region as a pivotal center for media education and talent cultivation.

Over three intensive weeks, emerging journalists and storytellers engaged in comprehensive training covering production, digital storytelling, and multiplatform reporting. This iteration focused significantly on preparing participants for professional environments and fostering industry connections.

Introduction of the First Job Fair

A highlight of this year’s session was the launch of the academy’s inaugural job fair, aimed at facilitating the transition from training to professional careers. This event allowed current participants and alumni to connect with recruitment leaders and decision-makers from top media and creative organizations.

Students engaged in preliminary interviews, explored internship options, and built professional networks with industry employers. Participating organizations included MarketingEnds, Factor31, Edelman, Brunswick, Frontier25, Abu Dhabi Media Network, Starzplay, and Forbes Middle East, showcasing significant industry integration.

Expert-Led Workshops and Global Insights

The fifth edition featured an array of workshops led by CNN anchors, correspondents, and technical experts, along with global industry leaders. Sessions concentrated on essential topics like ethical journalism, climate reporting, global health communication, youth empowerment, and immersive digital storytelling.

Speakers included notable figures such as Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President and CEO of Frontier25; His Excellency Dr Sultan Al Neyadi, UAE Minister of Youth; and Dr Paul Spiegel, Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Humanitarian Health, among others, who provided valuable insights into media's evolving role in addressing global challenges.

International Participation and Academic Collaboration

This year, the academy attracted students from top universities in the UAE, Europe, Asia, and the United States. UAE-based institutions like Abu Dhabi University and Zayed University provided academic credit and special certificates, respectively.

International participants included students from CNN Academy Erbil, University College Dublin, and Johns Hopkins University, indicating Abu Dhabi’s growing allure as a destination for global talent development.

Thematic Focus on Community Storytelling

In line with the UAE’s Year of Community, this edition emphasized Community Storytelling, examining how narratives can enhance social bonds and public awareness through reporting, features, and simulations.

Commitment to Fostering Creative Industries

Mohamed Dobay, Acting Director General of the Creative Media Authority, noted the academy's essential role in empowering young creatives and fostering industry growth. He emphasized that strategic partnerships are crucial in skill development and expanding opportunities for new media professionals.

Becky Anderson, Managing Editor of CNN Abu Dhabi, highlighted the long-lasting impact of the program on its graduates and the broader media sector, noting hundreds of alumni now thrive globally.

Pathways into the Creative Media Sector

CNN Academy Abu Dhabi continues to forge clear career pathways into the creative media industry. Graduates secure various roles and internships with organizations such as CNN Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Media Office, contributing significantly to the region's growing creative ecosystem.
