Chinese Automobile Sector Experiences Remarkable Growth in March

Post by : Bianca Hayes

In March, China's automotive sector experienced impressive growth in both production and sales, showcasing a robust market recovery.

Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) revealed that the total automobile production hit 2.92 million units, with sales reaching 2.9 million units. This signifies remarkable increases of 74.4% in production and 60.6% in sales when compared to February figures.

A major contributor to this surge was the burgeoning new energy vehicle (NEV) sector, where production soared to 1.23 million units, and sales went slightly higher at 1.25 million units, illustrating a solid consumer inclination towards electric and hybrid vehicles.

For the first quarter, total automobile production in China reached 7.04 million units, while sales exceeded production at 7.05 million units, reflecting a balanced supply-demand landscape.

During the same timeframe, NEV output totaled 2.97 million units, with sales at 2.96 million units, emphasizing the growing importance of this segment in the overall automotive market.

Going forward, experts anticipate sustained growth trends. Chen Shihua, Deputy Secretary-General of CAAM, mentioned that supportive governmental measures—such as extensive equipment renewal strategies and consumer trade-in programs—are likely to propel demand further.

Moreover, the forthcoming Beijing Auto Show is expected to unveil several new vehicle models, which could enhance market activity and nurture automobile consumption in the approaching quarter.
