Government Invests In Electric Vehicle Infrastructure

The Government of Canada has announced new investments to expand electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure across the country, aiming to make clean transportation more accessible and convenient for Canadians. The announcement was made on April 8, 2026, in Toronto during the EV & Charging Expo, highlighting the country’s commitment to a greener transportation future.

Speaking on behalf of Tim Hodgson, Parliamentary Secretary Karim Bardeesy confirmed that the government will invest $10.6 million in 14 EV charging infrastructure projects across Canada. These projects are expected to result in the installation of more than 1,600 new charging stations, helping to reduce barriers for individuals and businesses considering switching to electric vehicles.

The expansion of charging infrastructure is a key part of Canada’s broader strategy to encourage EV adoption. By increasing the availability of charging stations, especially in underserved areas, the government aims to give drivers greater confidence in choosing electric vehicles for everyday use. An additional $1.1 million will be provided to Plug'n Drive to continue its cross-country EV test drive tour.
