: A 40-year-old man from Brampton is facing multiple charges after a hit-and-run incident in Etobicoke left a pedestrian critically injured.
The incident took place शनिवार night in the Rexdale area, near the intersection of Albion Road and Islington Avenue. According to Toronto Police Service, officers responded to reports of a serious collision involving a pedestrian at around 9:23 p.m.
Investigators allege that a 58-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when a red Toyota Corolla traveling westbound suddenly crossed into oncoming lanes and mounted the sidewalk. The vehicle then struck the pedestrian before continuing into a nearby parking lot.
Police say the car also hit a fence and two parked vehicles before the driver fled the scene on foot. Emergency services transported the injured pedestrian to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two passengers in the vehicle were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities later confirmed that the suspect, identified as Suraju Ishau, turned himself in to police the following day. He has since been arrested and charged with multiple offences, including dangerous operation causing bodily harm and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
The accused is scheduled to appear in bail court as the investigation continues. Police are urging anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
The case highlights ongoing concerns around road safety and hit-and-run incidents, with authorities reminding drivers of their legal responsibility to remain at the scene and assist after a collision.
