In Bengaluru, a disagreement that erupted after a local cricket match escalated fatally, resulting in the death of a 33-year-old man due to a drunken clash, authorities reported.
The altercation involved Prashanth (33) and Roshan Hegde (37), who engaged in a verbal spat post their cricket tournament at a local playground in Electronics City. Law enforcement revealed that both men had been consuming alcohol at an open area behind a mall when a minor dispute ignited the confrontation.
What started as a squabble over a cigarette lighter rapidly devolved into a physical fight. The two allegedly hurled insults and pushed each other before attacking with beer bottles. During the melee, Hegde sustained a cut to his tongue.
Following the altercation, Hegde tried to drive away in his Tata Safari SUV while Prashanth stood on the front footrest, continuing the argument as the vehicle moved. Police allege Hegde then accelerated the SUV with intent to harm.
Shortly after, Hegde reportedly crashed the SUV into a tree and then into a compound wall. The devastating impact inflicted severe head and chest injuries on Prashanth, resulting in instant death.
The entire incident was captured on the SUV’s dashboard camera, aiding authorities in tracking down the suspect. Consequently, police have filed murder charges under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Hegde, working in the IT sector, was apprehended within an hour of the incident. The vehicle involved has been confiscated, and the investigation is ongoing.
