Belle Brockhoff Bids Farewell to Competitive Snowboarding Ahead of Olympics

In a heartfelt announcement, Australian snowboarder Belle Brockhoff has declared her retirement from competitive snowboarding, a move prompted by a series of serious injuries just weeks before the 2026 Winter Olympics.

At 33, the decorated athlete and three-time Olympian had been gearing up for the Milan-Cortina Winter Games set for February, but ongoing health issues have forced her to withdraw.

Brockhoff narrowly missed a medal at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, finishing fourth in snowboard cross. Unfortunately, her recent injury setbacks proved too much to overcome.

In late 2024, she sustained a serious fracture in her wrist, and her condition deteriorated further in March when she endured a heavy crash during a World Cup race in Georgia, resulting in a fractured vertebra. She was airlifted to a hospital where doctors employed pins and rods in her back for treatment.

Via Instagram, Brockhoff confirmed her decision, revealing her struggles with a compound wrist fracture alongside a fractured L1 vertebra.

Despite extensive rehabilitation and training over several months, she acknowledged that her body could no longer sustain the demands of competitive racing.

“After more than two decades in snowboarding, I know in my heart it’s time to step away from competitive racing,” she expressed.

Brockhoff’s retirement concludes an illustrious career in the sport and marks a poignant moment in Australian snowboarding history.
