Barnes and Ingram Drive Raptors to Close Call Triumph

In an exhilarating face-off on Monday, the Toronto Raptors, led by star Scottie Barnes, clinched a thrilling 110-108 win over the Charlotte Hornets, marking their fourth consecutive victory.

Barnes's performance included 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists, capped by a crucial block in the dwindling moments of the game—just 18.2 seconds after RJ Barrett of Mississauga, Ont., executed the go-ahead layup.

In the post-match discussion, Barnes emphasized, “We need to identify areas for improvement and strive for growth. Each game provides valuable lessons. Accountability is key to supporting one another effectively.”

This victory positions the Raptors half a game ahead of the New York Knicks in the Atlantic Division and elevates them to third place in the Eastern Conference.

Brandon Ingram stood out with a game-high 27 points, along with six rebounds and a vital block. Ingram shared insights on performing in high-pressure moments: “These situations are essential for our overarching goals—executing under pressure while supporting each other. It’s all part of our playoff preparation.”

Ingram also delivered a spectacular dunk with 6:43 remaining, a significant boost after recovering from a left ankle injury that limited him to just 18 games last season. “I felt like I hadn’t jumped that high in ages. Finishing strong at the rim really lifted my confidence,” he noted.

On Charlotte’s side, Kon Knueppel led with 24 points, while LaMelo Ball contributed 20 points and eight assists. Immanuel Quickley marked his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. This game added to Charlotte’s streak of three losses.

The final moments were intense, with Miles Bridges sinking a long three-pointer to give the Hornets a 108-106 edge. Barnes quickly countered with a powerful two-handed dunk, leveling the score at 108-108.

RJ Barrett clinched the win with a layup, courtesy of a sharp assist from Ingram. Barnes highlighted Ingram’s impact: “His offensive prowess draws defenders, which opens up lanes. RJ’s cut and Ingram drawing the focus pushed us ahead.”

Despite some disorganization, six Raptors reached double digits in scoring. Barrett (16), Jakob Poeltl (13), and bench player Gradey Dick (10) joined Ingram, Barnes, and Quickley in scoring 10 or more points.

Head coach Darko Rajakovic remarked, “This will provide great material for analysis. We executed wonderfully during critical moments—blocking shots, protecting the rim, and securing key rebounds. It’s invaluable for learning how to seal games successfully.”

Charlotte attempted 30 free throws, converting 24, while Toronto capitalized on 12 of their 16 attempts. On the topic of officiating, Rajakovic humorously stated, “As for the game tonight? I prefer to avoid a fine—no comments!”

Toronto’s victory strengthens their foothold in the Eastern Conference, propelling them as they aim to build upon a promising start for the season.
