In a thrilling conclusion to the Ashes series, Australia defeated England by five wickets in the final Test on Thursday, sealing a 4-1 series win. The match served as a fitting farewell for Usman Khawaja, who concluded his international career after 88 Test matches.

Chasing down England's target of 160 runs, Australia encountered some tense moments, losing five wickets during their pursuit. However, following lunch on the fifth day, they secured the necessary runs, bolstered by significant contributions from Cameron Green, who remained unbeaten on 22 runs, alongside wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who chipped in with 16 runs.

The Australian batting lineup struggled initially, with openers Travis Head and Jake Weatherald scoring 29 and 34 runs, respectively, before being dismissed. Captain Steve Smith added 12 runs, while Khawaja, in his farewell innings, contributed a mere six runs.

Marnus Labuschagne was vital in the run chase, scoring 37 runs after surviving an earlier drop at 20. Unfortunately, he ran himself out, prompting a brief resurgence from England when Australia’s score stood at 121 for five.

Despite the hiccup, Australia’s victory seemed assured. England's earlier innings was highlighted by a commendable 154 from Jacob Bethell, yet they were bowled out for 342 runs, insufficient to counter Australia’s dominance throughout the series.

The Ashes campaign showcased Australia’s excellence with bat and ball, culminating in a triumphant final match. Usman Khawaja, announcing his retirement prior to this game, received a heartfelt send-off from teammates and fans, celebrating a career characterized by resilience and key contributions to Australian cricket.
