Anutin Advocates for Swift and Equitable Justice

During a significant event at the IMPACT FORUM in Nonthaburi, Anutin Charnvirakul reiterated Thailand’s dedication to justice system reform and the enforcement of the rule of law. Under the theme “24 Years of Swift, Comprehensive, and Just Assistance to Innocent Victims,” the Prime Minister underscored the importance of prompt and fair justice in fostering public confidence and national stability.

Anutin articulated that “Justice delayed is justice denied,” highlighting the government’s duty to protect innocent individuals while ensuring equitable legal treatment for everyone. He asserted that the principles of justice and rule of law are foundational to social cohesion, democratic governance, and sustainable national growth in Thailand.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for equal treatment in the legal system for victims, suspects, and defendants. He asserted that assistance should be imparted without bias toward nationality, social standing, or status. Anutin affirmed that foreigners residing in Thailand should also receive just treatment in alignment with universal human rights and dignitary standards.

In reference to his government’s policy statement presented in Parliament on April 9, 2026, Anutin remarked on Thailand’s unwavering commitment to enhance legal equality and facilitate greater access to justice. He pointed out that reforms are being expedited to alleviate unwarranted burdens on citizens while boosting the efficiency and transparency of legal sectors through contemporary technology.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the distress caused to innocent individuals entangled in criminal investigations or legal disputes. He noted that wrongful allegations and judicial delays can tarnish reputations, disrupt livelihoods, and even affect lives. According to him, the government must actively avert scenarios where innocent individuals become scapegoats in the justice process.

Officials revealed that since the introduction of the Compensation for Victims and Reimbursement of Expenses for Defendants in Criminal Cases Act in 2001, over 145,000 innocent individuals have benefited from assistance in Thailand. The authorities reported that more than 8.1 billion baht has been allocated to support victims and defendants impacted by judicial matters. Since 2023, more than 1,000 foreign nationals have received assistance totaling over 47 million baht.

Anutin directed all government bodies to adhere to three core tenets in their operations: speed, comprehensiveness, and fairness. He emphasized the necessity for victims to receive immediate aid without delay or cumbersome processes. Anutin also urged government employees and local governors to adopt a proactive approach to addressing legal challenges and alleviating the hardships faced by citizens nationwide.

The Prime Minister indicated that upgrading the justice system is crucial for enhancing Thailand’s global reputation and economic opportunities. He remarked that firm rule of law practices are scrutinized by foreign investors and international bodies, particularly as Thailand pursues membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. According to Anutin, transparent legal frameworks increase confidence among businesses and the global community.

The event culminated with the Prime Minister symbolically turning a clock to noon, representing the aspiration for swift and unbiased justice. He also personally delivered financial assistance to four victims under Thailand’s compensation program for victims and defendants. Officials characterized the gathering as part of the government’s comprehensive initiative to modernize the justice system and ensure equitable treatment for all individuals in Thailand.
