Al-Jouf: A Premier Hub for Migratory Birds as Captured by Photographer

Post by : Bianca Hayes

Saudi Arabia's diverse environments are providing excellent avenues for photographers to capture the beauty of bird migration and the habitats of native species.

Photographer Nader Al-Shammari shared his experiences in bird photography that began in 2011, focusing primarily on the Al-Jouf Region, while also exploring birdwatching in Aseer and other areas.

Al-Shammari has successfully documented over 230 bird species solely in Al-Jouf, an impressive figure in contrast to the total 507 bird species recorded in the entire Kingdom.

He noted that the distinctive environment of Al-Jouf plays a crucial role in bird migration, offering varied landscapes such as mountains, deserts, wetlands, and croplands that create an inviting atmosphere for migratory birds.

The region attracts many migratory birds, with some lingering for months. Through his lens, Al-Shammari has captured both transient and local bird species.

Recent monitoring in Al-Jouf has also uncovered several notable and rare bird species, including the wood pigeon and the greater hoopoe lark, emphasizing the ecological significance of the region.

Al-Jouf remains a prominent spot for birdwatching enthusiasts and wildlife photographers in Saudi Arabia.
