Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, who serves as President and CEO of Frontier25 and The Climate Tribe, recently held discussions with Professor Eric Xing, the President of the Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI). The dialogue aimed to foster collaboration on applying artificial intelligence to climate challenges.
The meeting centered on making AI research actionable in the realm of climate change and covered recent innovations in sustainability, climate science, and AI technology.
Additionally, they explored K2 Think, an open-source AI reasoning initiative introduced by MBZUAI and G42 in September, which is recognized for its competitiveness among top international AI models and marks significant progress in AI in the UAE.
MBZUAI has also revealed a range of climate-centric initiatives, such as a weather forecasting training program collaborating with the University of Chicago. This initiative aims to equip governments with the tools to offer localized weather forecasts for agriculture. The University also partners with the United Nations Development Programme as a founding knowledge contributor for the AI for Sustainable Development Platform (AI4SDP), initiated following COP28.
In October, Sheikha Shamma welcomed Young Global Leaders from the World Economic Forum during the From Heritage to Horizon programme, featuring sessions at MBZUAI focused on utilizing AI for a sustainable future.
Sheikha Shamma remarked on AI's pivotal role in reshaping our understanding of the planet, emphasizing the need for the knowledge and technology at MBZUAI to empower global climate efforts.
