A devastating explosion shook a university cafeteria in Bukit Damansara earlier today, resulting in one fatality and nine injuries.
The incident occurred in the air-conditioner compressor room on the cafeteria's Level 4 during regular maintenance, leading to extensive damage across nearly one-third of the area. Fortunately, no fire ignited after the explosion.
Emergency responders acted swiftly, responding to a call received at approximately 11:51 a.m. Several fire units, including a Hazmat team, were dispatched to evaluate potential gas leaks. The site was later declared safe from hazardous materials, and officials indicated that the situation was under control.
Among those injured were four students, two canteen workers, an in-house technician, and two contractors. Tragically, a 24-year-old contractor who sustained serious injuries passed away at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the explosion, concentrating on the maintenance operations in the compressor room at that time.
