Record Flu Vaccine Uptake in Abu Dhabi for 2025–2026

The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), in collaboration with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), has announced significant achievement in their seasonal influenza initiative for 2025–2026, with over 350,000 residents vaccinated to date. This achievement represents the highest vaccination turnout in several years and is crucial for safeguarding community health.

Running from September 2025 through March 2026, this campaign embodies Abu Dhabi’s commitment to prevent flu infections, care for vulnerable populations, and enhance community immunity ahead of the colder months. Comparatively, the number of vaccinations this season has surged past the 162,761 recorded in 2022–2023.

To improve accessibility, ADPHC has formed teams delivering vaccines across malls, majlis, workplaces, embassies, worker residences, and government agencies, supported by initiatives to raise community awareness. Weekly activities in shopping centers across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, coupled with local majlis gatherings, are broadening the campaign's influence. Vulnerable groups such as older adults, children, pregnant individuals, and frontline workers are prioritized.

In addition, ADPHC emphasizes the importance of personal preventive measures, such as frequent handwashing, covering one’s mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, staying clear of sick individuals, and resting at home if unwell. These practices, combined with vaccination, are effective in curbing influenza transmission.

Initial health monitoring for the season reveals that hospital admissions due to flu-related complications largely involve unvaccinated individuals, primarily older adults, children, and those with chronic health issues. This is consistent with international research demonstrating the vaccine's role in preventing severe outcomes.

HE Dr. Rashed Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADPHC, stated: “Having exceeded 350,000 vaccinations reflects Abu Dhabi’s profound dedication to prevention and community health. We urge all residents to get vaccinated to ensure their safety and that of those around them.”

Seasonal influenza continues to be a leading cause of respiratory illness across the globe. Annual vaccination is recognized globally as the most effective strategy to mitigate illness, complications, and healthcare facility strain. Updated vaccines in Abu Dhabi align with international health guidelines.

Residents can obtain the flu vaccine at participating primary healthcare facilities or through community vaccination sites throughout the emirate. ADPHC remains committed to enhancing outreach, observing health trends, and collaborating with partners to bolster public health readiness.
