Alphabet Inc’s Google has unveiled plans to invest $10 billion in Andhra Pradesh, marking its largest investment in southern India. The initiative will establish a massive data centre and artificial intelligence (AI) hub, aiming to strengthen India’s position in AI technology, digital innovation, and cloud computing.

Officials from the Andhra Pradesh state government confirmed that Google will construct a 1-gigawatt data centre campus in Visakhapatnam. The project will integrate advanced AI infrastructure, large-scale energy solutions, and an expanded fibre-optic network to ensure robust connectivity for large-scale digital operations.

A formal agreement on the project is expected soon, signaling the start of this transformative investment. The move aligns with a broader trend of global tech firms investing heavily in data centres and AI infrastructure to meet the rising demand for cloud computing and AI services.

Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh emphasized the strategic importance of the project, stating, “In an era where data is the new oil, such initiatives will serve as a strategic advantage. This project will not only enhance the state’s digital infrastructure but also attract more global technology companies to invest in India.”

The Visakhapatnam campus will feature sustainable energy solutions to support the high-capacity data centre. Google plans to leverage this infrastructure to scale AI services, support research initiatives, and strengthen cloud computing resources across India and neighboring regions.

The investment is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, improve local infrastructure, and create opportunities for AI startups, research institutions, and tech talent in Andhra Pradesh. By making this investment, Google aims to solidify India’s digital ecosystem and position the country as a key player in global AI and cloud technologies.

This project underscores India’s growing appeal for big tech investments, driven by a combination of strategic location, government support, and a rapidly expanding digital economy.
