Spain maintained a flawless start to Europe’s 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, cruising to a 4-0 victory over Bulgaria on Tuesday. Mikel Merino was the star of the show, scoring twice with headers in the 35th and 56th minutes.

Bulgaria’s struggles continued as Atanas Chernev accidentally turned a cross into his own net in the 79th minute. Mikel Oyarzabal sealed Spain’s victory in added time, converting a penalty after Merino was fouled in the area.

Spain remains unchallenged at the top of Group E with:

Turkey follows with nine points, Georgia sits third with three, and Bulgaria remains at the bottom after suffering its fourth consecutive defeat.


Italy Secures World Cup Playoff Spot with Win Over Israel

Italy confirmed at least a playoff berth for the 2026 World Cup after beating Israel 3-0 at home. Mateo Retegui scored twice, first converting a penalty after being fouled and later curling a brilliant finish in the 74th minute. Gianluca Mancini added a stoppage-time header to complete the win.
