Bangladesh Women's Cricket Tour to India Delayed Indefinitely

The upcoming tour of India by the Bangladesh women’s cricket team has been indefinitely postponed. This series, which included three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20s scheduled for December, was confirmed to have been delayed by a spokesperson from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in a statement to ESPNcricinfo, indicating that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) communicated about rescheduling.

Though no specific reason was cited for the postponement, it is believed that ongoing political tensions between India and Bangladesh significantly influenced this decision.

This series was integral to the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s Future Tours Programme and was planned to serve as India’s last international outing before the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. For the Bangladesh team, it was a critical opportunity to further their Women’s ODI Championship journey and enhance competitive experience ahead of major tournaments.

Matches were set to take place in Kolkata and Cuttack, providing both teams with a platform to evaluate their squads in preparation for future fixtures.

Earlier in the year, a similar postponement occurred with the Indian men’s team’s tour to Bangladesh, initially slated for August 2025, now rescheduled to September 2026 following discussions between the boards. This change was made considering international cricket commitments and scheduling feasibility for both parties.

At that time, the BCCI remarked, “This decision has been reached after thoughtful discussions, taking into account international commitments and the convenience for both teams. The BCB anticipates hosting India in September 2026 for what is highly awaited. Revised dates for the tour will be announced subsequently.”

The suspension of the Bangladesh women’s tour affects crucial preparation for both sides ahead of major tournaments. India was gearing up for these matches as part of their WPL preparations, while Bangladesh missed a vital chance to compete against a formidable opponent in a match-intensive environment, potentially impacting their rankings and future performances in ICC events.

Despite this postponement, both cricket boards are dedicated to finalizing a suitable date for the series. Players are expected to continue their training and preparations for the new schedule when it is announced.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board and the BCCI have confirmed that new dates for the women's series will be provided later. Fans of women’s cricket eagerly await this news, as the matches promised thrilling encounters that could further enhance relationships between the cricket boards of both nations.

While this indefinite delay poses challenges, it signifies thoughtful planning regarding international schedules and safety protocols. Both teams now shift attention to other upcoming tournaments while making arrangements for this series in the near future.
