The Vietnamese government is undertaking a significant overhaul of its National Land Use Planning strategy for the 2021-2030 timeframe, projecting a long-term vision toward 2050. This initiative seeks to harmonize swift economic development with sustainable practices, food safety, and urban growth.
In Hanoi, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung led a high-level meeting to examine proposed revisions and discuss the execution of land management policies. Attendees included senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment alongside representatives from various governmental sectors.
Officials noted that Vietnam's development priorities have transformed considerably over the last five years, driven by increasing demands for industrial areas, urban infrastructure, and economic expansion. Consequently, the nation now necessitates a more adaptable and forward-thinking land use strategy.
During these discussions, ministries assessed several key land categories like rice cultivation regions, protected forests, special-use forests, and land designated for defense and security. Authorities underscored the need to avoid land wastage and prevent long-term delays in developmental initiatives.
Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung highlighted that future land planning should cater to both current economic requirements and long-term national interests. He cautioned against disjointed development, emphasizing that land management must integrate with broader national, regional, and sectoral strategies.
Officials further stressed the necessity of ensuring food security by safeguarding rice-growing regions, particularly in the Mekong Delta. Meanwhile, discussions included the creation of opportunities for industrial development, transport infrastructure, urban growth, and public services in less agriculturally productive areas.
The revised planning approach will also account for climate change, urbanization, shifts in global markets, advanced farming techniques, and environmental challenges. Authorities believe these elements are vital for establishing a sustainable and resilient land management framework going forward.
