Thailand and Japan have intensified their discussions on collaborative efforts in science, innovation, and technology as they seek to enhance partnerships in cutting-edge sectors and human capital development.

Professor Dr. Yotsanun Wongsawat, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, met with Japanese Ambassador Otaka Masato in Bangkok to cover important areas such as semiconductors, space technology, synchrotron research, and broadening the KOSEN educational initiative within Thailand.

Thai officials emphasized the government's commitment to advancing technology as a means to launch new economic growth drivers and boost the nation's long-term industrial competitiveness. Japan was highlighted as a vital collaborator due to its prowess in technology, engineering, and innovation.

A key focus was the KOSEN educational framework, a Japanese technical education model currently in operation at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi. Plans are underway to extend this program to more universities in its next phase.

Further discussions included collaborative projects in satellite tech, disaster monitoring, climate research, semiconductor production, and the establishment of Thailand's fourth-generation synchrotron light source. The meeting saw participation from various agencies like NSTDA, GISTDA, NARIT, and STRI.

Ambassador Otaka Masato remarked on the long-standing collaboration between Thailand and Japan in scientific fields, expressing optimism about furthering partnerships in space exploration and satellite applications for agriculture, disaster response, and economic enhancement.

Additionally, progress was noted on a draft memorandum of cooperation regarding space technology involving Thailand's MHESI and Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, with Thai officials confirming that the proposal is advancing through the necessary approval stages before being presented to the Cabinet.
