Post by : Mina Carter

Ottawa residents are set to enjoy a rare warm spell this weekend, with temperatures soaring well above the seasonal average. Forecasts predict highs of 25 °C on Friday, 26 °C on Saturday, and 28 °C on Sunday—potentially breaking the 1991 record of 27 °C. Monday will remain warm at 27 °C before cooler fall air arrives.

Unusual Weather Explained

Meteorologist Geoff Coulson described the conditions as “highly unusual” for this time of year. Warm air flowing north from the southern U.S. is expected to drive the temperature spike across eastern Ontario.

Local Businesses Welcome the Sunshine

Restaurants and breweries with outdoor patios are preparing for a busy weekend. Rob McIsaac, co-founder of Beyond the Pale Brewing Company, said, “Every nice patio day can bring in thousands of extra dollars. This weather is a big win for us.”

Dry Conditions Continue Across Eastern Ontario

September marked the third consecutive month of below-average rainfall in eastern Ontario, prompting all six regional conservation authorities to issue low water level statements. The most recent advisory, for the Mississippi River watershed, was issued on September 24.

Consequences of the Dry Spell

The dry conditions have already contributed to a complex forest fire in North Dundas, Ont., highlighting the importance of ongoing burn bans and water conservation measures. Authorities continue to urge residents to be cautious with water use and outdoor fires.

The unseasonably warm temperatures are expected to ease by midweek, returning the region to typical fall weather.
