Dubai Customs Initiates Innovative Logistics Center

Dubai Customs has officially launched an innovative Center of Excellence for Customs and Trade Logistics in collaboration with the University of Dubai, marking a significant move in the emirate's vision to be a leading player in global trade and logistics. The initiative is poised to modernize customs frameworks, bolster supply chain robustness, and align with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.

The newly formed center will act as a cutting-edge research and knowledge platform, centered on advancing innovative customs methodologies, streamlining operational processes, and boosting the international competitiveness of Dubai's trade landscape. Officials expressed that this project embodies Dubai's long-term goal of being one of the most impactful economic and commercial hubs worldwide.

According to Dubai Customs, the center's focal areas will include policy formulation, applied research efforts, digital customs system enhancement, and international benchmarking studies aimed at facilitating trade and optimizing logistics performance. This initiative will foster smarter customs operations driven by AI, contemporary digital technologies, and modernization of trade practices.

The partnership with the University of Dubai enables collaboration with top international academic institutions and research bodies. Key global collaborators include Kühne Logistics University, Michigan State University, University of Adelaide, and Henley Business School, among others.

Officials noted that the center aims to tackle emerging challenges in global trade, including cross-border e-commerce, ensuring supply chain security, fostering sustainability, and navigating digital transformation in logistics operations. It is anticipated that this effort will promote greater trade transparency and enhance customer experiences within customs services.

Dr. Abdulla Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, characterized the center as a strategic investment in the future adaptability of Dubai, crucial for the emirate's economic growth trajectory. He remarked that the initiative is designed to enhance research capabilities, back evidence-based policymaking, and help Dubai remain at the forefront of dynamic global trade landscapes.

Dr. Eesa Al Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, stated that this collaboration bridges academic insights with practical customs operations. He emphasized that the joint efforts aim to generate inventive solutions that could transform the landscape of global trade governance and integrated logistics systems.

To celebrate the launch, Dubai Customs and the University of Dubai are hosting a large innovation hackathon, featuring 33 student teams and over 110 participants. This event targets the development of smart solutions for customs inspections, supply chain resilience, transparency in trade, and future logistics technologies.

This initiative underscores Dubai's increasing focus on digital evolution, innovation, and knowledge-oriented economic growth as it aspires to serve as a central hub in future global trading systems.
